Admissions
Candidate Profile
ISCTE Business School is seeking students who can demonstrate the ability and commitment to successfully manage an academically demanding, full-time programme. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with the potential to become the business leaders of tomorrow.
Our International Masters programmes are designed for high-calibre graduate students and taught exclusively in English, in an international and multicultural atmosphere, therefore candidates must show evidence of a completed Bachelors degree as well as proficiency in the English language.
Although every application is assessed on its own merits, these programmes are mainly designed for students with little or no professional experience.
We invite candidates who believe they have the skills, knowledge and motivation necessary to visit where they will find further details of the application process and candidate requirements.
Note: It is understood that many candidates will be applying whilst still studying for their Bachelors degree. In such cases candidates will be asked to sign a declaration of commitment until such time as their degree is awarded.
Application Requirements
We require the following skills and qualifications from applicants to our International Masters programmes:
- A bachelors degree awarded by a university or institution of higher education;
- Proficiency in the English language;
- The results of an applicant's GMAT or GRE exam, although not obligatory, may enhance their chances of being admitted.
Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships is available to candidates providing clear evidence of outstanding academic achievement. The scholarships may cover up to 100% of the tuition fees.
A high GMAT or GRE score enhances a student's scholarship application.
Please note that the scholarship application is only considered after submitting programme application and payment of the respective application fee.
To apply for a scholarship at ISCTE Business School, candidates should complete an online application form (closed) and send digital versions of the following documents to mastersft.ibs@iscte.pt :

- 2 Letters of Recommendation
Candidates applying for a scholarship must submit their applications no later than 8th May 2013.

Selection Process
IMPORTANT - Selections are made on a rolling basis from the moment the application period opens. We therefore encourage early applications.
The selection process involves four separate stages which are outlined below:
Step 1. Initial assessment. After submitting completed online application and after payment of the application fee, applications will be reviewed by a member of the International Admissions Office. We will consider your application form, answers to the admission questions, Curriculum Vitae and other supporting documents to assess the strength of your application.
Step 2. Interview. If successful in the initial stage, and within 2-3 weeks of applying, we will invite you to an interview with the Programme Director. During the interview we will further explore your academic background, experience, competencies, personal qualities and motivation. Depending on your location, you may be interviewed face-to-face or by phone/Skype.
Step 3. Final Election Decisions. All applicants will be notified of the final decision at the end of each period of selection, and no later than 23rd July.
Step 4. Enrolment. If your application is successful you will be notified by e-mail. You will have three weeks, from that date, in which to pay the 1st installment of the tuition fee (€750 for all International Masters programmes except the MSc in Economics for which the 1st installment is €350) plus the administration fee of €30 (which includes the student card and student insurance) to reserve your place on the course.

Foreign Policies
European Union (EU) and EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) citizens have the right to move to another EU Member State to live, study and work, but should contact the Department of Immigration and Border Control (SEF) after arriving in Portugal. Evidence will have to be provided of enrolment at ISCTE, as well as proof of health insurance coverage and sufficient financial resources.
Nationals of non-EU or non-EEA countries must apply for a study visa, which is a special permit granted to foreign students coming to Portugal. This visa must be obtained from the consular section of the Portuguese embassy or consulate in the country of residence. Should you have any doubts, please check with your local Portuguese embassy or consulate. The study visa may be granted on a multiple entry basis and is valid for one year.
The Portuguese Public Health System covers students from the EU holding a valid document issued by the health authority of the country of origin.
If you have private health insurance, ask your insurance company if it can provide extra medical coverage for your stay abroad. Be sure that your current health insurance policy is valid until the end of the programme. If you are not an EU citizen, check what documents you need to receive assistance in Portugal on your current health care plan. You must be sure you have appropriate medical coverage for the duration of your studies in Portugal.
Getting a job
Students from European Union member states don't need, in most cases, a work permit and have better chances finding work, especially with Portuguese languge skills.
Students from outside the European Union holding a study visa, may do complementary work while pursuing the studies for which the visa was granted. A work contract might be requested. For further information, please check the site of the Portuguese Service for foreigners and border affairs SEF (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras)
