Faculty
Catarina Roseta-Palma
Catarina Roseta-Palma is a professor at the ISCTE-IUL Business School and holds a Phd in Economics from Nova SBE. Her research is mostly in environmental and natural resource economics and she has several publications in these areas. She’s the vice-president of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. She has also worked as a consultant for the Portuguese Environment Ministry, the European Commission and the River Basin Authorities of Alentejo and Algarve.
Emanuel Gasteiger
Emanuel Gasteiger was born and raised in the heart of Bavaria. He obtained a Diploma in Economics from the LMU Munich and a PhD in Economics from the University of Vienna. He also has several years of experience as a consultant in the Information and Communications Technology industry in Austria, Germany and the UK. He is now an Assistant Professor of Economics at the ISCTE-IUL Business School. His research focuses on the role of (non)rational expectations in macroeconomics in general and in monetary and fiscal policy in particular.
Fátima Ferreiro
Maria de Fátima Ferreiro is an assistant professor at Department of Political Economy (School of Human and Social Sciences) with a PhD in Economics (ISCTE-IUL) about ‘Economics, Property Rights and Agriculture’. Her activity as a teacher is related with courses of History of Economic Thought, Social Economics, and Economics and Territory. Her research and publication areas are mainly related with territory and sustainability, environmental values and ethics, public decision and social economics. She is a member of Dinâmia-CET/ISCTE-IUL.
Felipa Sampayo
Felipa de Mello-Sampayo is an assistant professor at the ISCTE-IUL Business School and holds a Phd in Economics from Birmingham University. Her publications are mostly in microeconomics and applied microeconometrics in areas such as health, FDI and tourism.
José Dias Curto
Dr. Dias Curto is currently Associate professor in the Quantitative Methods department and Director of the Master in Management at ISCTE-IUL Business School. His research is broadly on statistics and econometrics applied to finance and accounting. He has published his work in the International Statistical Review, Statistical Papers, Journal of Applied Statistics, Nonlinear Dynamics, European Management Journal, Portuguese Economic Journal, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, European Accounting Review and Australian Accounting Review. He got his Ph.D. in Quantitative Methods for Management from ISCTE-IUL.
Luís Francisco Carvalho
Luís Francisco Carvalho is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Economy of ISCTE-IUL and holds a Phd in Economics from ISCTE-IUL. He his researcher at DINAMIA’CET-IUL, Centre for African Studies (CEA-ISCTE-IUL), and Centre of African and Development Studies (CESA-ISEG-UTL). His research interests cover the History of Economic Thought, Development Theories and Policies, International Political Economy, and African Studies. He has worked as a consultant for the Portuguese Education Ministry.
Luís Martins
Luis F. Martins is Assistant Professor of Quantitative Methods at ISCTE-IUL Business School. He studied economics and econometrics at ISEG-UTL, Portugal (Licenciatura in Economics, 1995; M.S. in Mathematical Modeling for Economics and Management, 1998) and economics at the Pennsylvania State University, USA (Ph.D. in economics, 2005). His research focus is on theoretical and applied time series econometrics and he has published a number of articles in refereed journals including Econometric Theory, Econometrics Journal, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and Empirical Economics.
Monika Turyna
Monika Turyna is from Warsaw, Poland and holds a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Vienna. She is an assistant professor at ISCTE-IUL Business School. Her research interests comprise two areas: public choice, namely the interrelation between the political and economic environments and the influence of political institutions on collective decision-making, and industrial economics, in particular market structures and imperfect competition.
Rui Menezes
Rui Menezes is full professor of Quantitative Methods at ISCTE-IUL Business School. He holds a PhD in econometrics from the University of Keele, UK. His research work is mostly concerned with Time Series Analysis and Financial Econometrics and he has several publications in these fields. He is currently the head of the Department of Quantitative Methods at ISCTE-IUL, member of the General Council and had previously several responsibilities in Academic Administration and Consultant.
Sérgio Lagoa
Sérgio Lagoa is assistant professor at ISCTE-IUL and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester. He has taught several graduate and undergraduate economics courses in ISCTE-IUL. His research is mostly in monetary and financial economics and he is member of the research center Dinâmia-CET/ISCTE-IUL.
Vivaldo Mendes
Vivaldo Mendes is an associate professor at the Business School of ISCTE-IUL and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex. His research is mostly in the fields of macroeconomics and nonlinear dynamics and has various publications in these areas. He is currently the director of the department of Economics at ISCTE-IUL and has also performed other public duties at the university level (e.g., Vice-Rector of ISCTE--IUL from 2005 to 2009).
